Aira City's must-see spots
Kamo Camphor Tree
Standing tall in the grounds of Gamo Hachiman Shrine is the largest tree in Japan, estimated to be 1600 years old and with a trunk circumference of 24.22 meters. It has an overwhelming presence. It is a nationally designated special natural monument.
Shigetomi Beach
Located within Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery overlooking Sakurajima. The beautiful coastline of white sand and green pines with its vast tidal flats is used as a swimming beach in the summer. We also recommend relaxing in the shade of the pine forest while looking out at Sakurajima.
Ryumon Falls and Ryumonjizaka
Ryumon Falls boasts an impressive scale of 46m drop and 43m width, and has been selected as one of the "500 Best Waterfalls in Japan." Ryumonjizaka was once a highway connecting Edo and Satsuma for the transport of feudal lord processions and goods, and about XNUMXm of it remains in its original state.
