Fukiage Onsen

Formerly known as Isaku Onsen, Fukiage Onsen is an atmospheric hot spring resort beloved by many poets and writers, including Saito Mokichi and Noguchi Ujo. Saigo Takamori is said to have visited in 3 and 7, staying for over 40 days and enjoying the hot springs and hunting, and a monument to Saigo Nanshu's visit, written by Togo Heihachiro, has been erected there. In the nearby Bono district, the large stone "Gozaishi" on which Saigo sat, as well as the hand-washing basin he created, remain.
