Former Kagoshima Spinning Mill Engineer's Residence (Foreigner's Residence)

This was the lodging for the British engineers invited by Shimazu Tadayoshi, the 29th head of the Shimazu family, when he established Japan's first Western-style spinning mill. It is registered as a World Cultural Heritage site as one of the constituent assets of "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution." The exhibits that tell the story of the time are also a highlight.
