Historic site: Fukushoji Temple ruins

It was once the largest temple in western Japan, with branch temples in Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu. It was abandoned in 1869 due to the anti-Buddhist movement, and was designated a prefectural cultural property in 1953. It is known as the burial ground for successive generations of the Shimazu family, and is home to the graves of the 6th to 28th heads of the Shimazu clan, including Shimazu Nariakira, and their families.
