Since its founding in 1930, the company has continued to create safe and delicious sweets rooted in the local community, combining traditional techniques with new technologies. The "Hokomochi," which can only be purchased at Kirishima Shrine, is a sweet inspired by the "Amanosakahoko," the Heavenly Spear that the gods are said to have thrust into the peak of Takachiho from heaven in the myth of the descent of the heavenly grandchild. It is made with mochi (rice cake) luxuriously using domestically produced rice flour and sweet potatoes from Kagoshima Prefecture, wrapped around red bean paste, and generously coated with cinnamon.
