Notice of implementation of "Crane Wintering Grounds Utilization Adjustment Project" in Izumi City Crane Migration Area / Izumi Crane Festival
Izumi City is the largest wintering ground for cranes in Japan, with over 1 Hooded Cranes and White-naped Cranes migrating here every year. In recent years, about 9% of the world's total population of Hooded Cranes and about 5% of the White-naped Cranes migrate here, making it an important location internationally. In order to promote proper conservation and management of cranes and the creation of new communities that coexist with cranes, a project will be implemented from Saturday, January 1rd to Sunday, February 23th to restrict entry to the use adjustment area and ask for the optional payment of a wintering ground environmental conservation contribution.
The target of the use adjustment is mainly tourists who are interested in observing cranes, etc. After attending a lecture at the Crane Observation Center, they will travel the designated route by a set means (private car, minibus tour, personal car, etc.). In addition, during the use adjustment period, we ask that you pay a voluntary "wintering ground environmental conservation contribution" to be used for environmental conservation of the crane wintering ground, strengthening of the disease prevention system, and protection and management of the cranes. As a benefit, those who pay the contribution will receive free admission to the Crane Observation Center and Crane Park Izumi, as well as the use of private cars and minibus tours.
In addition, the Izumi Crane Festival will be held for four days from January 1th (Sat) to 30st (Sun) and February 31th (Sat) to 2th (Sun). At the Crane Observation Center and Crane Park Izumi, there will be take-out food from local restaurants, stalls selling local specialties and souvenirs, and a mini tour bus run by local guides, among other fun events.
Please see the website for details on usage adjustment areas and information about other events.
